"There's a monster under my bed" - Fears and anxieties in young children

Little children have fears that we as adults cannot understand.I remember that when my daughter was 2 and 3 she was very frightened of anyone dressed up e.g. clowns, santa clause, even a person dressed as a battery in the grocery store (to promote batteries) would all cause her to cling to me and bury her face into my shoulder. These dressed up people did not fit into her world and her response was to be afraid. I didn't push her, nor did I make a big deal of her fears and slowly over the years (she is now 7) her fears dissappeared.
