She trained as a Child Life Specialist at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, gaining valuable skills in children's play therapy to reduce the trauma to children caused by hospitalization.
Anne Oxenreider’s entire career has focused on education and young children. She has worked as a grant writer for human service organizations, a director of a community-wide preschool parent program and a teacher. Since 1984, Kay has been employed by Publix Super Markets in Lakeland, Florida, as the founding Director of Publix Child Development Center serving 170 young children. She is a member of the adjunct faculty of Polk Community College, teaching in the Early Childhood Department and has worked with Gwynn Valley Camp in Brevard, NC, as a Head Counselor for many summers. She has a BA in Psychology and a MEd in Child Development. Dr. Brown is a pediatrician who specializes in child abuse. She regularly lectures to the medical and wider community about how to recognize and prevent child abuse, including shaken baby syndrome. Dr. Brown is the Medical Director of the Child Maltreatment Evaluation Program Mission Children's Hospital.
Dr. Cuellar completed his premedical studies and graduated from Southwestern Medical School in Dallas with an MD. He trained at the University of Texas St Joseph Hospital in Houston, and entered private practice in Asheville, NC. Dr. Cuellar is board-certified in Obstetrics & Gynecology and maintains continuous certification from the American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology. He has held a clinical appointment as Assistant Professor from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and opened Asheville Obstetrics & Gynecology, PA, in 2004.
Dr. Engstrom is a retired general pediatrician who has practiced general pediatrics in Concord, NC, for 42 years. He has had an incredible career, which is shown through all his exceptional achievements. For the past 19 years, he has been involved with the North Carolina Pediatric Society (NCPS). Currently Dr. Engstrom serves on the Board of Directors of the North Carolina Pediatric Society Foundation. Linda Yandell Smith, RN, MSN, IBCLC has 28 years experience in maternal child nursing with expertise in neonatal nursing and lactation. Dr. Woollen recently served as president of the Novant Medical Group, a multi-specialty physician division within NovantHealth. Dr. Dillard is a Professor of Pediatrics at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine. He is the Medical Director of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Sara Lee Center for Women’s Health at Forsyth Medical Center. Dr. Dillard has been selected annually since 2003 to be included in the 'Best Doctors in America'® database. His research interests have focused on long-term outcomes of premature infants. He has authored more than 50 scientific publications during his career in academic medicine.
Mark has 35 years of experience working with parents, children, and families in strengthening the family bond. He authored The Nurturing Father’s Program, a thirteen-week parenting curriculum for men that has been utilized by thousands of fathers and implemented by organizations such as Prevent Child Abuse, Head Start, and Milwaukee Fatherhood Initiative. After growing up in the Western NC Mountains, Laura received her Bachelor’s from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, her Master of Science in Public Health at UNC-CH School of Public Health, and her MD from UNC School of Medicine. Dr. Mims is the Medical Director of Mission Children’s Hospital in Asheville, NC. She leads Mission Children’s Hospital as it grows to meet the healthcare needs of children in western NC and to promote children’s health throughout the region. Prior to joining Mission in 2006, Dr. Mims worked for six years with Buncombe County’s public health department and the largest provider of indigent care in the county. She served as the county Medical Director, leading disease outbreak investigations as well as overseeing the clinical work of the department.
Dr. Campbell is a former Associate Clinical Professor of Pediatrics and Psychiatry at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine. Margaret Taylor holds a M.Ed. degree in Counseling from Clemson University, and a B.A. in Psychology from Davidson College. Margaret is a Nationally Certified Counselor and worked as a licensed professional counselor for eight years in a variety of settings including, public mental health treatment, private residential treatment and private practice. Her primary focus as a counselor has been with children and parents coping with emotional problems related to grief and trauma. For the last nine years, her focus has been on parenting two children with her husband in Mount Pleasant, SC.
Dr. Masters is a board certified child and adolescent psychiatrist. He served for 15 years as the Director of Youth Services for Appalachian Hall Hospital in Asheville, NC. He was medical director of Focus by the sea. In 1992 he wrote a book, Angry Child: Sleeping Giant or Paper Tiger.
Currently Dr. Masters is the Medical Director of Three Rivers Midlands Campus Residential Treatment Center, where he teaches psychiatry to Physician Assistant Students. He is also A Clinical Assistant Professor in the College of Health Professionals, Medical University of South Carolina.
